Issaquah features easy access to the cultural amenities of Seattle to the east and Bellevue to the northeast, all within a rural, forested setting. Located along Interstate 90, Issaquah is within a half-hour of downtown Seattle. Nearby Lake Sammamish provides opportunities for boating, water skiing, and picnicking at the popular Lake Sammamish State Park. Close to Mt. Si, the Issaquah Alps, and the Cascade Mountains, Issaquah offers skiing, hiking, mountain biking and climbing all within close proximity. The Issaquah Alps feature Tiger Mountain State Forest; Squak Mountain State Park; and Cougar Mountain Regional Park, King County's largest park at 2,478 acres. Within Issaquah itself, you'll find the historic downtown area; Gilman Village, with its relaxed art galleries and antique shops; and Boehm's Chocolate factory, world-renowned for its Swiss, hand-dipped chocolate and confections. Issaquah's Salmon Days Festival, attracting over 200,000 people, is held the first weekend in October to celebrate the salmons' return to Issaquah Creek. Historic downtown Issaquah still remains the "center of town". Generations of local merchants, quaint shops, live theatre, and regionally known restaurants and wineries reflect the close-knit spirit of Issaquah. Several historical societies work together to maintain the charm and beauty of the town's humble beginnings. |
