Kirkland is a beautiful waterfront city located off Interstate 405 on the shores of Lake Washington, with access to Bellevue and Highway 520, which leads directly into Seattle. Kirkland maintains 25% of its active waterfront for public access, the highest of any city in Washington. With a population of over 40,000, Kirkland annually supports a local economy of $3.8 billion. The beautiful Lake Washington waterfront offers wonderful shopping opportunities--unique house furnishings, speciality shops, antique shops, and art galleries. Kirkland Avenue, which already features a new local libarary, also boasts the new $4 million Kirkland Performance Center, a 400-seat communtity theater which hosts ballet, theater and choral performances. Current community events here include Kirkland's Summer Fest in July, which features around 100 Northwest artisans; the Wooden Boat Festival in August at Carillon Point; and the Christmas Parade of Ships during December at Carillon Point, Marina Park, and O. Denny Park. You will also find many trails in and around Kirkland, including Bridle Trails State Park, which features more than 20 miles of equestrian trails; Lake Washington Boulevard, a paved trail which runs from Marina Park to Carillon Point; and the Yarrow Bay Wetlands and Juanita Bay Park. The housing here features numerous waterfront views, as well as views of Seattle and the Olympic Mountains. You'll find the neighborhoods of Houghton; Holms Point; Yarrow Bay; and Carillon Point, with its shops and offices, the well-decorated Woodmark Hotel, and the local marina.
