Incorporated in 1913, Redmond provides a short commute to Seattle across the Highway 520 bridge. This city, which lies to the east of Bellevue, is considered by many to be at the center of Eastside activity and business, and with a population of over 44,000, Redmond is now the sixteenth largest city in Washington. Here you'll find a number of bio-tech industries and computer hardware and software companies. Of course, you could not go without mentioning the site of Microsoft, also known here as 'The Campus.' Aside from the technological and manufacturing hot spot that Redmond is, you'll find that it is also an outdoor-savvy city. In Redmond there are 30 parks, including 1203 acres and 25 miles of trails. Marymoor Park, at 500 acres, is one of the largest parks on the Eastside. It features the state's only Velodrome, quite apt for a city also known as "The Bike Capital of the Northwest." The 1905 Clise Mansion houses the Marymoor Museum, which highlights the area's pioneer history and offers guides to other historical sites around Redmond. Nearby you'll find the Sammamish Valley Slough Trail, which runs past Woodinville and into Bothell, on which you can run, bike, or roller blade. In July, the Heritage Festival at Marymoor Park features music, ethnic dancing, food, and an arts and crafts fair. Marymoor's Evergreen Classic Horse Show in August is ranked among America's top equestrian events, where riders compete in their jumping skills. For golf fans, the PGA Championship comes to Redmond's Sahalee Country Club. Nestled within the Sammamish Valley, Redmond is surrounded by hills, lakes, and mountain views.
